The Abnormalcy of the New Normal

"And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened (Matthew 24:22).

Today, I woke up to the shocking news of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio Oregon. Taking innocent people's life is the new normal that the devil wants us to believe and embrace.

It's now very clear to me we are living at a time of great crisis and emergencies. The media, politicians, and the thought leaders of our day are stealthily conditioning us to accept the man-made crisis and tragedies as the new normal.

The church has not been spared either, tribalism, nepotism, favoritism, regionalism are the new normal. It's now cool and acceptable to settle scores and differences in our faith and procedures with fists and fights.

Are you hoping for better days to raise your family in friendly environment? Sorry, it won't happen any time soon. The family unit is under attack from a myriad quarters and only God can shield it from the onslaught. It's a new normal to have homeless, fatherless, and motherless kids on these streets. Spouse and child abuse is the new normal and so are the ever rising divorce rates across nations. Everything family is breaking down.

As it appears things will get worse than cancer, HIV, ebola, tsunamis, hurricanes, and the now all too common earthquakes. Despair, panic, and anxiety are sweeping across the land holding men and women captive. It's now more true than ever that "Men's hearts (are) failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming to earth..." (Luke 21:26).

The "good old days" are gone forever never to return. We have to face the uncertain future with all that it has in store for us - both negative and positive. Luckily we don't have to face it alone. God is with us.

The Bible predicts a time when God will intervene in human affairs decisively. A time when God shall interrupt and "cut short" the "new normal" or the established order of things. God has and will hasten this redemptive final act or else no man shall be able to stand. According to our key text God must cut short this mess we put there ourselves.

The new normal... sorry the abnormal will come to an end some day soon. Of course, all this will be done for the "elect's sake" (Matthew 24:22).The greater news is you can be counted among the elect if you accept the freely proffered salvation in the person of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Christ secured your salvation some two thousand years ago. Won't you let Him into your heart? Just let Him in right now.

Lord help us to always wait on you. Help us to constantly keep looking forward to the restitution of all things and bring out a new order out this chaos. Amen.

  1. The times are not easy, indeed the trouble is man made.
Am encouraged that there is hope in Jesus and he is willing to save us if we accept him in our hearts. All to Jesus I surrender...
    Martin, Thanks for sharing this.
